Obsessively Crafted High Mountain Rum. Montanya Oro is distilled and ages at nearly 9,000 feet above sea level in the Colorado Rockies. A small batch, single barrel rum, Oro ages for a minimum of one year and often longer in American White Oak barrels from Colorado’s Laws Whiskey House. Because the barrel is wet and fresh from the whiskey, the Oro is full-bodied and picks up many favourable characteristics of the oak.

Unfiltered, the natural colour of the barrel remains along with a hint of colour from a tiny touch of Colorado honey (the honey’s acidity brings out the natural flavours of the rum and the barrel). Hence the name Oro, which means gold in Spanish. (The Latin and Spanish roots of Oro and Montanya offer a nod to the Spanish speaking countries like Colombia, Guatemala and Panama where the mountain tradition of rum-making began). Unlike many dark aged rums, the Oro never receives added sugar, molasses caramel or artificial colourings or flavourings.

Flavours prominent in the Oro include red chilli, coffee, caramel, vanilla, pineapple, and chocolate.

Montanya Oro was named USA Rum of the Year in Berlin and has received 8 Silver Medals and one “Best In Class” designation in competition.
