Equiano Light Rum
A Journey of Discovery
Equiano Original starts its journey at Gray’s distillery in Mauritius, where the Rum is made from local molasses and barrelled for a minimum of 10 years in a combination of French Limousin Oak and ex-Cognac casks, giving the liquid complexity and depth of flavour. It is then sent to Barbados to be married and vatted with rum from the award-winning Foursquare Distillery; Rum that has been barrelled in American oak casks that had previously aged Bourbon. Foursquare rums are a mix of column and artisanal copper pot
still and are famed for their butterscotch and caramel notes. The carefully crafted liquid marries the two distinct components from each terroir to make a one-of-a- kind, naturally flavoured rum. So much so that Equiano is a limited-batch liquid, with each new edition having its own subtle nuances and personality.
TASTING NOTES BY IAN BURRELL, GLOBAL AMBASSADOR FOR THE RUM CATEGORY:
ON THE NOSE: Subtle tropical warmth with rich notes of dried fruits such as raisins and sultanas combine with sweet toffee, butterscotch and caramel culminating with a suggestion of orange peel, vanilla and buttered wood
ON THE PALATE: The natural sweet notes expected of a well-aged rum from American white oak ex- Bourbon casks. A warm toffee and butterscotch mouth-fell, with chewy raisins and brown sugar flavours
TO FINISH: A medium to sweet ending with touches of oak, anise, sweet pepper with a hint of bitter orange peel.
