Bristol Black Spiced

Christmas Surprise Box Featuring Bristol Black Spiced Rum

CHRISTMAS IN A BOTTLE!

Bristol Black is an example of Spiced Rum or a Spirit Drink as legislation requires it to be called. It is a unique blend of white Rum from Mauritius and dark Rum from the island of Trinidad and Tobago, aged between 3 to 5 years. These Rums provide the base for a blend of spices based upon salt liquorice, a much-loved flavour within the Nordic regions. The inclusion of oil of orange provides a deep and mouth filling flavour, free of vanilla and cinnamon.

The original conception evolved when chatting with our distributors for the Scandinavian markets where it is often consumed as a Hot Grog, served in a Toddy glass. The Spiced Rum characteristics allowed incorporation into our current range of fine Rum from around the World. Bristol Black is presented in a high quality, black cardboard gift tube with metallic silver lid, displaying the unique Bristol Classic Rum identity. This offers a prestigious feel as well as keeping the distinctive Rum bottle secure.

As a Spirit Drink, this can also be consumed neat; in fact, John prefers this as a long drink mixed with dry ginger ale, ice and a slice of orange. A classic rum drink that’s easy to put together at home.

They like to keep some mystique at Bristol, Bristol Black has been described as ‘Bristol in a bottle’. Traditionally a city located in the West of England, Bristol has a long history of importing and exporting premium products. With Bristol Black you can be assured of a fantastic Spiced Drink, evolved by John, someone highly respected within the industry.

TASTING NOTES

On the nose this dark rum is full with molasses, clove, spices, tobacco and hints of orange and lime citrus. Some are even reminded of Christmas by its very distinctive fruit cake and spice aromas.

November’s Surprise Box of Craft Rum Featuring Angostura 1919

A RICH RUM HISTORY

A delightful light golden rum of incomparable taste, Angostura 1919 is one of the most successful rums of the House of Angostura. Named for the year it was casked, Angostura 1919 is a light blend of rums aged in charred, used bourbon oak casks and distilled in Angostura’s multi-column continuous still.

Angostura 1919 is a rum with a unique story. In 1932 following a catastrophic fire hundreds of charred casks filled with rum, were found at Trinidad’s Government Rum Bond. Creative blending of this precious find, rum that had been aging 13 years, resulted in a delightful light golden rum of incomparable taste. This ‘spirit of Trinidad’ was proudly shipped to Trinidadian troops fighting far away from home in World War II.

Angostura 1919 is the only rum in the premium category to capture a Master in the international 2013 Spirits Business Rum Masters. Between 2010 and 2015 Angostura 1919® took home 23 medals from prestigious competitions including the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the World Rum Awards, the Rum Master Awards, the World Spirits Awards, the International Wine and Spirit Competition and more (see appendix).

El Ron del Artesano

October’s Surprise Box of Craft Rum Featuring El Ron del Artesano Amarone Cask Rum

AN EXCEPTIONAL RUM RESTED IN AN AMARONE CASK

Sebastian Lauinger is the man behind El Ron del Artesano a 5th generation spirits distiller. Seb’s heart was in rum and discovered a place for his own kind of rum in Panama. First buying casks from a distillery there and now he has taken the step to bring his own distilling equipment to Panamá and follow his passion.

From Seb: ‘What you are holding in your hands is an expression of my understanding of rum aged in particular casks, in this case a red wine cask. I do not add any sugar or flavour because I want to deliver to you a clear and honest rum, matured, not made’

TASTING NOTES

The nose starts with sweet and gentle aromas of vanilla, cookie dough and some orange.
After some seconds in the glass you can also smell in which cask this rum has been aged and the aromas of the Amarone cask show up with hints of plum, cherry and a bit of wood.
There are also some hints of Grapefruit and dark cacao.

On the tip of the tongue it seems to be a cherry-juice at first.
Through your mouth it moves with an oily texture and a nice, equilibrated style.
The orange is stronger on the palate but you can still find vanilla.
The cacao seems to change into dark chocolate without being

September’s Surprise Box of Rum Featuring Dos Maderas 5+5 Rum

RICH, RIPE, SMOOTH

Dos Maderas 5+5 PX begins its journey in the Caribbean, where we carry out a careful selection of rums from Guyana and Barbados. These certified rums, of the highest quality, are static aged for five years in casks that have previously been used to age Bourbon. The rum is then shipped to Bodegas Williams & Humbert in Jerez, where the second stage of ageing commences in our traditional Solera system.

The casks chosen to age Dos Maderas 5+5 are over 100 years old and have been used to age two oenological jewels of Williams & Humbert: Palo Cortado “Dos Cortados” and Pedro Ximénez “Don Guido”. Both Sherries are bottled after ageing in these old casks for a minimum of 20 Years and they are certified by the Sherry D.O.  Palo Cortado is a dry Sherry, very aromatic and full of flavour. Pedro Ximénez (PX) is a very sweet, dark Sherry made from grapes that, once harvested, are left out in the Andalusian sunshine to become raisin. The period of ageing in ‘PX’ casks transforms the rum, giving it a darker colour and its very distinctive sweeter flavour.

We can therefore say that Dos Maderas 5+5 is a triple aged rum, in fact, it could be called 5+3+2 ! That is, 5 years of ageing in the Caribbean, 3 years in Palo Cortado sherry casks and 2 years in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.

TASTING NOTES:

Dark amber in color, this intriguing rum offers fig and raisin notes at first, leading to rich, ripe fruit on the palate. This is seasoned by some tropical spice and wrapped in sherry notes, with wisps of smoky oak and a touch of tobacco leaf.

August’s Surprise Box of Spiced Rum Featuring No Name Mango Spiced Rum

TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES AND 100%FRESH INGREDIENTS.

To differentiate between the Faith & Sons range and the new rum range, Filipe knew they needed a new name and design. Maybe all my energy had been used on the flavours, mixed with months of cabin fever, but I decided on No Name Distillery. The label was inspired by a love of retro sci-fi and really helps the rums stand out both on a bar and in somebody’s home drinks cabinet. To call it, a micro distillery, may be an understatement. I was working on my own for 5 years until 2020 when I recruited Jack. We had already met working in a Manchester cocktail bar together briefly in 2014. We shared a passion for spirits and the hospitality industry and stayed in touch after I left the bar to focus on my distillation studies. We still do everything ourselves, from labelling all the drinks by hand, to travelling across the country for drinks events and shows.

The rum has a velvety texture, some subtle nutmeg, and vanilla notes which help to push the tropical mango to the forefront. Perfect for mixing with your favourite mixer, experimenting with cocktails or even drinking over ice.
