Summer is warming up nicely and with June’s surprise box we have great pleasure to bring you a taste of paradise from the Island of Mauritius.
In June’s box;
New Grove Old Tradition 5 years Old Rum 70cl – 40% vol

The rum’s appearance can be best described as having a golden colour with coppery reflects. When tasting the first nose it’s dominated by jammy fruit (cooked apple and marmalade). The palate is very aromatic melting vanilla and wooden notes with slight hints of pepper. This full-bodied 5 year old rum truly epitomises the spirit of the Indian Ocean. Its strong and attractive personality comes from an original ageing process which associates French Limousin oak barrels and Port barrels. We discovered this rum on a recent trip to the New Grove distillery in Mauritius. After we shared many evenings sipping this on the rocks or mixed with the local sparkling pear drink we wanted to bring it back and share with the club members.
It’s been great fun putting this box together using authentic Mauritian products. The Pearona is not too sweet and is very popular across the island. The Moolkoo reflects the Mauritian Indian culture and the ground nuts are baked in sand before the shell is peeled off. This gives them a unique flavour. Both compliment the rum and these literally came off the plane on Wednesday!
